This is a wonderful opportunity for students in grades 1 through 12 seeking to further develop their musical skills and talent. Crazy for Science Week

A recent article in PTO Today featured the Crazy for Science Week at Northeast Elementary School. The article highlights the unique weeklong event that took place in February 2017 with dozens of professionals who shared their expertise with elementary school students. The event was a fantastic opportunity whereby students learned to build robots, learned the science behind volcanoes, learned about the importance of oceans, and more.

Grade 3 Northeast Elementary School students learned about organic and geometric shapes this year. Students viewed Matisse’s Goldfish painting and observed its color, pattern, organic, and geometric shapes, and created their own goldfish paintings. Brenda, this month's featured artist, shares her talent and skill with her rendition of Matisse's Goldfish. Nice work!
Author and Champion of School Nutrition Education Visits Waltham Public Schools

On May 11, renowned author and champion of school nutrition education Dayle Hayes visited all the Waltham Public Schools and toured the food service department. Hayes was impressed by the program and promoted it on various social media platforms raising awareness about how the district nourishes students with healthy and delicious meals.
Waltham High School Earns Full Accreditation

Notice Regarding Copper Testing in Waltham Public Schools

On a yearly basis, the Waltham Public Schools Facilities Department and the city's Water Department collect water samples at our schools to assess for lead and copper. Water samples were collected before the start of the 2016-2017 school year and sent for analysis to the MWRA. Please read this important letter from Director of Facilities John Pinzone to the Waltham community clarifying the results of all testing.

The information gathered by the eye is processed by the brain, creating a perception that in reality, does not match the true image. This art piece by Randall, a 5th grade student at Fitzgerald Elementary School, is mesmerizing!
Waltham School Building Committee Co-Chairs announce Preferred Site for New WHS

The School Building Committee and City officials are deep in their discussions with the community about two locations under consideration for a new Waltham High School: the current high school site and the Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers site. Advantages and disadvantages to both sites are outlined in a recent Op-Ed prepared and submitted by Waltham School Building Committee Co-Chairs Superintendent Drew Echelson and High School Principal Gregory DeMeo. A preferred site recommendation is included.

In a recent letter to the Plympton Elementary Community, Superintendent Echelson announced the appointment of Mr. Stephen Duffy as Interim Principal at the Plympton Elementary School effective July 1, 2017. Mr. Duffy is an experienced school administrator with a strong background as an effective school leader. For the last 3 years, he has served as the Assistant Principal at the Henry Whittemore School.

10TH ANNUAL “EDUCATE YOUR PALATE” EVENT

Grants funded by the WEBF and the Sally Elizabeth Peters Enrichment Program have allowed teachers to implement new curriculum programs and purchase new technology and equipment for their classrooms. A Letter from Superintendent Echelson to the Waltham Community

In a recent letter to the Waltham Community, Dr. Echelson has informed families of several confirmed cases of Influenza (Flu) and an increase in student absentee rates in our schools. Most students are presenting with a headache and fever above 100 degrees F. Dr. Echelson has spoken with the local Board of Health, and they have confirmed the Flu is present in the Waltham community, much more so than last year, and numbers are increasing. Families, students, and school staff can help keep from getting sick with flu in several ways. Please read on for more steps to take...

Waltham Schools Transition to Google this Spring

In an exciting move toward a more streamlined approach toward effective communication, Dr. Elizabeth Homan, Administrator of EdTech Integration, has announced a timeline for a gradual and phased plan to implement GMail as the single e-mail and calendar system for Waltham Public Schools. There are three phases outlined in Dr. Homan's plan, beginning in February 2017. All phases are detailed with expectations and steps to consider for a smooth transition.
