Violence Prevention

Narrative: Students will examine a variety of issues including bullying, harassment, dating violence, sexual assault, and the impact of the media in society. Students will explore the sources of violence in school and society and will develop skills to prevent and combat violent situations acquiring effective conflict resolution skills to foster personal growth. Self defense strategies will be taught in this class. Particular attention will be paid to dating violence and the importance of developing healthy relationships.

| Unit 5 | 4 Classes | Gang Violence | students will learn about gang violence and what could be done to prevent others from joining gangs |
| Unit 6 | 1 Class | Suicide | students will learn about suicide, depression and anxiety and how to break free |
| Unit 7 | 4 Classes | Racism | students will learn about the connect with racism and violence and develop skills to be upstanders |
| Unit 8 | 2 Classes | Sexism/Gender Violence | students will learn about the connection between sexism and gender violence and develop the skills needed to prevent this as well as to be an upstander when this happens |
