Advanced Strength Training is designed for students who want a more in-depth experience and exposure to more advanced strength training theory, concepts, and practice. This course is also designed for those students who would like to pursue training certifications (NASM-CPT) in the future or have interest in a career in the field.

 

Prerequisite: Must get approval from current PE teacher.

 

Students will be able to develop an understanding of fitness concepts and design personal fitness programs while developing an individualized level of health-related activities to complete assessments of their health related fitness.

 

Students will learn the relationships between physical activity, physical fitness, group interaction, cooperation, an appreciation for the abilities and limitations of self and others and various health-related outcome.

Functional Movement Screening

- Explain the components of a fitness assessment and why
- Explain the importance of screening prior to program design
- Demonstrate the FMS Screen and it’s corrective movements
3 3 lessons What is my target heart rate Zone? Can I adjust my pacing during fitness activities to stay in my target zone? Cardiovascular Training

- Describe  the function of the cardio-respitory system
- Explain how each of the systems relate to program design
4 2 lessons Do I know what types of flexibility exercises are necessary for me and others? Flexibility Training

- Explain the rationale for integrating a flexibility component of a wellness program
- Perform different types of stretching and the appropriation for each
5 2 lessons What is the purpose and safest methods of core training and why? Core Training

- Explaining the importance of core training.
- Design a core component for any individual need
- Understand the value of core training other than cosmetic

10 5 lessons Can I design a muscular fitness Tabata routine that develops balance in opposing muscle groups (e.g., biceps and triceps)? 3rd Phase of Training
