This eight-week long program comes from a need and demand from families who attend the Finish Strong Latina/o Parent Leadership Workshop at Waltham High School. Latina/o parents and guardians care about the education of their child and seek support for their child’s success in the public school system. Honoring families’ home language, the program is currently held in Spanish. The program aligns with the Massachusetts Strengthening Families: A Protective Factors Framework. It aims to offer parents, guardians, and adolescents/child the skills needed to keep the family together after years of separation. This program will help families foster positive attitudes and interpersonal skills by building on their strengths, focusing on child/adolescent development, and understanding emotional, cultural, and social stressors that can impact student success at school.
