The Waltham School Committee welcomed two new members on Wednesday, June 1st. Yessenia Tejeda and Jaison Patel, both current WHS sophomores, joined the School Committee following a reception to welcome them and to bid farewell and thank you to the two graduating School Committee Student Representatives, Annie Jean-Baptiste and Zach Cercone.
Yessenia Tejeda is originally from Mexico, and moved to the United States when she was four. She speaks fluent Spanish and English, and is in the process of learning French. She has attended Waltham Public Schools since she arrived and is an honor student at WHS. She is thankful for the opportunity to join the School Committee.
Jaison Patel is an avid mathematician and inventor; he participated in, and won, the pi-contest consecutive times. Jaison understands the importance of having a stable environment, such as that of WHS, and how it can affect the academic, and personal, lives of all the people in it. Jaison’s aspires to become an entrepreneur in the STEM field.
The School Committee also bid farewell and thank you to the two graduating seniors, Annie Jean-Baptiste and Zach Cercone. Annie will be attending Brandeis University on scholarship, and is interested in pursuing a career in education. Zach will be attending Ithaca College and pursuing his passion for filmmaking in the fall. Thank you for your service and dedication to Waltham Public Schools, Annie and Zach!
Finally, the School Committee also thanked Jillian Donnelly for her service to School Committee last year and her continued service next year as a WHS senior. Jillian is a varsity lacrosse and soccer player and aspires to pursue a career in medicine after graduation.
Jillian, Yessenia, and Jaison, thank you for bringing student voice to the School Committee in the coming year! Annie and Zach, thank you for your service, and good luck!
