Waltham Partnership for Youth Summer Internships

Kaytie Dowcett and Charlotte Powley

The Waltham Partnership for Youth Summer Internships provide 32 students with the opportunity to gain hands on experience in diverse career paths. Kaytie Dowcett started the program last year with just 6 employers, mostly consisting of her colleagues and friends. Due to success of the program from the previous year, the internship program has grown tremendously, from 6 to 20 employers.

Through advertisement and networking, Ms. Dowcett hopes to continue to grow the program. Her goal for next year is to provide more than 50 students along with 30 employers the opportunity to participate in the summer internships.

Students who participated were required to create a resume, write a cover letter, and interview with one of the staff coordinators. Along with the help of the summer internship coordinator, Charlotte Powley, students were matched with employers. All Internships are paid to offer all students from different financial backgrounds a chance to participate.

WPY encourages hard working students to participate. Big thanks to the staff coordinators of the program and the Mass Life Science Center for funding the internships.
