Brenda De Araujo, Grade 3
Northeast Elementary School
Brenda and her classmates learned about organic and geometric shapes this year. Students viewed Matisse’s Goldfish painting and observed its color, pattern, organic, and geometric shapes. They created their own goldfish paintings that included a geometric cylinder, oval table, and at least four sections of organic pattern using four to five colors. Students drew first in black oil pastel and then mixed and applied tempera paints.
This lesson applied standards of shape , form and pattern, identifying organic and geometric shapes and positive and negative space (standard 2.10, elements and principles of design).
Brenda is an exemplary art student. She always perseveres and takes on personal challenges with each assignment. She has confidence in her ability, but is always open to learn something new. She is generous with her expertise and is always willing to help other classmates and help with set-up or clean-up.
Brenda would make a great art teacher!
