Janet O’Reilly comes to Waltham with over 20 years experience in education. She began her career as a Teach for America corps member and middle school teacher in Baltimore, MD. She continued her career as a middle school and high school teacher in Cambridge, MA working as both a general education teacher and special education teacher. Recently, Janet worked as the Classroom Management Coach with the Chelsea Public Schools. Janet has significant experience leading professional development for school staff in the areas of Creating Positive Classroom Culture, Implementing Restorative Practices, Inclusive Instruction, and New Teacher Development. Janet earned her undergraduate degree from Merrimack College, Master’s degree from Lesley University, and completed the Merrimack Leadership Academy. Janet is very passionate about creating and sustaining a school culture that is best for children and for their academic, social, and emotional learning. One of Janet’s favorite quotations from Maya Angelou is, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Janet is excited to continue her career as the new Assistant Principal at the McDevitt Middle School and looks forward to getting to know the school’s children, parents, staff, and community well. She hopes to make all feel welcome, listened to, valued, and appreciated.
