Girls Who Code
October 21, 2020
Our mission as young women who are already interested in computing and technology is to introduce younger generations of girls to the field of computer science and empower girls to believe that they can change the world with code, hence the operation name - Power Her Up! While Girls Who Code is a program designed for participants who identify as female to promote a girls-supportive environment, we will also welcome any 6th-8th grade member who wishes to join this initiative regardless of gender identity.

"Luna" is a bi-lingual comedy by Ramon Equivel. Soledad, the daughter of migrant workers, yearns to make friends but if forced to follow her family from place to place because where the work goes, the workers go. Soledad finds herself making best friends with the moon and the stars who give her the courage to take a risk and put down roots, even while her parents have to keep moving. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. All tickets are general seating and will be sold at the door. Performances are April 26 and 27 at 7 p.m.
9th Annual Moody Street 5K

The 9th Annual Moody Street 5K will be held Sunday May 5, 2019 at 12pm on the Moody Street bridge. This race is a fundraiser supporting enrichment and athletic programs for Waltham Public Secondary Schools. Participation and friendly competition from all Waltham schools is encouraged with prizes awarded for top finishers, best school representation, and a variety of community-based awards. McDevitt Middle School Musical

McDevitt Middle School presents "On this Island"! Directed by Drama Teacher Carolyn Jepsen, the fall musical tells the story of a young girl on a tropical island who uses the power of love to bring together people from different backgrounds. Students from McDevitt Middle School along with students from Stanley, Fitzgerald, and Whittemore Elementary Schools were invited to attend this wonderful cultural event. McDevitt Middle School welcomes Assistant Principal Janet O'Reilly. Janet comes to Waltham with over 20 years of experience in education. She began her career as a Teach for America corps member and middle school teacher in Baltimore, MD and most recently worked as the Classroom Management Coach with the Chelsea Public Schools. Janet has significant experience leading professional development for school staff in the areas of Creating Positive Classroom Culture, Implementing Restorative Practices, Inclusive Instruction, and New Teacher Development.

Waltham School Building Committee Co-Chairs announce Preferred Site for New WHS!

The School Building Committee and City officials are deep in their discussions with the community about two locations under consideration for a new Waltham High School: the current high school site and the Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers site. Advantages and disadvantages to both sites are outlined in a recent Op-Ed prepared and submitted by Waltham School Building Committee Co-Chairs Superintendent Drew Echelson and High School Principal Gregory DeMeo. A preferred site recommendation is included.
