4th Graders study the Immigrant Experience

4th Grade students completed an interview project in support of their Social Studies unit on Immigration.  Connor C. from Ms. Brogna's and Ms. Foley's class wrote about this project for their 4th grade website. Click on this link to learn more about other things happening in Grade 4. 

Fourth Grade Immigration Interview Project

​On January 27, 2017 all fourth graders participated in a social studies activity on immigration.  We mixed groups of students from all classrooms to work together on peer interviews.  We shared and compared immigrant experiences.  Mrs. Santillo and Mr. Kmiec joined the classes!  Each student paired up and asked questions and answered questions about the immigrant they chose.  We asked questions such as:  Where did they come from? How old were they when they left their country?  Who did they leave behind?  How were they treated when they arrived in the U.S.?  What were some of their feelings about the immigration experience?  There were immigrants from Italy, Ireland, India, Guatemala, Argentina and many other countries around the world!  Some students even interviewed their parents!  It was a very fun and interesting immigration activity for fourth grade, learning about people’s experience as an immigrant.  Next we are going to compare and contrast our immigrant’s experience to those that we interviewed.
