Professional Development
Current Offerings (for Summer):
The EDCO Summer Collaborative Technology Program is now open for registration. All staff in our district are invited to participate in any of the 35 workshops offered through this program - all at no cost! The programs are offered throughout the 21 member districts of EDCO, and throughout the summer months. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your technology skills - and to learn from practitioners both within and beyond our district. Please go to the following website to see what is being offered: http://www.edcollab.org/~Seefurth/SummerTechnology

Since 1994, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has offered professional development institutes free of charge to Massachusetts educators. More detailed descriptions and registration information about the upcoming 2011 Summer Professional Development Institutes (PDIs) can be found at http://www.doe.mass.edu/candi/institutes/11/.
The 2011 English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics institutes have been aligned to the new 2011 Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Incorporating the Common Core Standards and key new elements of the standards will be highlighted. In ELA, attention will be given to literacy and promoting students' ability to read and comprehend increasingly complex text. In mathematics, teachers will have opportunities to experience the Standards for Mathematical Practice and engage in topics such as: Algebra, Fractions for Elementary School Teachers, and Math Progressions (the MA Intel Math Course). A broad range of topics for the institutes also include: Health; Identification, Instruction and Assessment of English language learners; The Language of Learning; New Literacies; Connecting Science and Literacy; Laboratory Based Chemistry or Physics; Implementing Technology/Engineering Standards; and Thinkfinity: using online resources to improve teaching and learning. Professional development points (PDPs) toward re-licensure will be awarded, and graduate credits are also available.
Over 700 K-12 teachers are expected to participate in this year's institutes, some of the courses will be offered online. All educators are eligible to participate. Priority is given to teachers from high-need districts; educators who need to become licensed and knowledgeable in the subject area that they teach; teachers of English language learners; and special education teachers. Professional development points (PDPs) toward re-licensure will be awarded, and graduate credits are also available.
