As per our (soon to come) DTAUA "9.3. Personal computers must have up-to-date virus protection software."  Coming soon... how to download Sophos to your personal computer (if you do not already have up-to-date virus protection.)

Network Security and Bandwidth Management

Bandwidth Consuming Applications, live feed radio,viewing/listening to streaming media such as YouTube, Pandora, but not limited to, put a heavy traffic load on the district's Internet connection and can bring the entire bandwidth to saturation. For that reason teachers will need prior authorization from their Principal to have such sites unblocked for their account for educational purposes.

Peer to Peer Applications such as Skype but not limited to, that allow users to make voice and video calls including file transfer over the Internet have some level of risk as data transfers can't be monitored and archived. This can render our network vulnerable to data leakage and also can be exploited to allow anyone to send a file that contains possible viruses and malware. To mitigate these risks, district computers will have the file transfer feature disable for such applications. While these applications have educational benefit, they also require a tremendous amount of bandwidth. Therefore instead of ad hoc calling or access, teachers will need prior authorization from their Principal to have such sites unblocked for their account for educational purposes.
