Mathematics Department Goals
1. Offer high quality math instruction to all students leading to mathematical proficiency. (Mathematical proficiency refers to conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, competence in application, the ability to connect knowledge, and a productive disposition.)
2. Establish a student-centered mathematics learning environment with a focus on student understanding. (A student-centered learning environment is one with active learners that includes the use of written and oral communication, real-world connections, cooperative learning strategies, differentiated instruction, multiple forms of feedback, and effective questioning.)
3. Use data to improve learning for all students. (Using data refers to the process of developing professional learning communities that look at a variety of different kinds of data including formative and summative assessments, identify the causes of problems seen in the data, and implement research-based instructional improvements.)
