Animal Research Writing Projects
Third Graders of DeFazio-Binney, Freed, & DisCiscio
Students in the third grade classrooms of Ms. DeFazio-Binney, Ms. Freed, and Mrs. DisCiscio each chose an animal to research in December. They used multiple sources including books and databases to complete research notes on their animals. After completing their research, students used their notes and what they have been learning about informational writing to each write an informational book about their animal. Their books include illustrations, diagrams, table of contents, glossary, and sources.
In addition to writing their books, in the first week of January, students built dioramas that illustrated their animal in its biome. To celebrate their writing, students invited our principal, assistant principal and other staff to visit the classroom to read the books and see the dioramas. Room 212 and 213 students were especially excited to share their information as “animal experts” with a visiting first grade science classroom!
