Oyon Ganguli, 4th Grade, received a commendation by the Waltham City Council for winning the National Inventors Hall of Fame Mighty Minds Contest for his invention, "The Cleaner." The ceremony took place last month during the City Council meeting. Councilor Kathleen McMenimen & Councilor Robert Waddick both spoke to recognize Oyon's accomplishment. Waltham Newswatch summarizes the commendation during this report.
Oyon's journey began in the summer of 2015 when he attended Camp Invention due to his love of science and technology. As a result, he was eligible to submit an entry into the Mighty Minds Inventors contest coordinated by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Oyon submitted a video of his invention, "The Cleaner," as part of his entry into the contest. Watch the videohere. This project was one that he originally developed for the FitzGerald School Science Fair, held annually for interested 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
As a result of winning the contest, Oyon and his family attended the awards ceremony for the National Inventors Hall of Fame held in Washington, D.C. Oyon was recognized during the awards ceremony seenhere. Upon returning to FitzGerald School, Principal Santillo proudly recognized Oyon's accomplishment and shared his story with all of the students. Mrs. Santillo presented the videos shown above to all students and had Oyon share his story about the entire experience. It was another memorable day at FitzGerald School and one that left many students and staff full of Panther Pride about the recognition and accomplishments of one of their own.
Congratulations to Oyon on this wonderful accomplishment!
