|Welcome to Northeast !!!|
We are beginning to plan our 10th Annual Spring Northeast Walks! This year it will be May 4th through May 8th. We will have two walking buses – one starting from Our Lady’s parking lot and one from the corner of Doty and Circle. A Walking Bus is a group of people who walk from one location to another and “picks up” other walkers along the way. On Wednesday, May 6th we have arranged, with parental permission, North American Central School Buses to stop and drop off bus students on the corner of Abbott and Gilman so they can participate in the walking bus. We will be using the permission slips we got in the fall, unless we hear from you. If you need another permission slip, please call the office. We will be looking for volunteers to help out throughout the week – look for the slip that will come home soon!
I will be sending out the classroom placement letter and questionnaire later this month. Your input aids us in the long process of determining classroom placement for the coming year. The process has many steps. An example of how it would work for children moving from Grade 1 to Grade 2: Grade 1 and Grade 2 teachers meet with administrators, School Adjustment Counselor, Reading Specialist and Special Educators and come up with a first draft of groupings that incorporate many factors (who should be with whom, who shouldn’t be with whom, making sure that classes are diverse and heterogeneous to name a few). Often times, this group meets more than once. During this time, parent input is addressed. After the list is typed, it goes out to Grade 1 and Grade 2 teachers two to three times for revisions. Students are given an opportunity to meet with the Grade 2 teacher on the last day of school. As you can imagine, we work hard to make sure that every possible concern is addressed in order that your child is placed in a classroom where s/he will be able to do his or her best learning. This is a process that we take very seriously and spend a considerable amount of time and energy on. It is essential that it is not shortchanged. I am sure that you agree that this is something that should be attended to carefully.
Enjoy your April vacation! I have predicted that all of the snow will be gone by then – do you think I will be correct?
